Meeting was called to order by President Shipley. The Pledge was led by Charles Green and the blessing/invocation was led by Tim Tapp. The Tail Twister collected 4.58, and the Lion Tamer collected 3.40. President Shipley won the drawing and donated the funds to the Turtle Derby.
Announcements were made concerning upcoming eye screenings for daycares and schools in the area. The screenings are listed on the Lions App. If a Lion has not downloaded this app it is easy to do and an easy way to keep up with club events. It was also announced that the Turtle Derby will be held at the Boys and Girls club on November 9th from 9 – 12 noon.
Millie Burke was present and brought greetings from the District as well as giving several lucky ticket holders the chance to go home with a small Lions Club Door Prize.
Senator Rusty Crowe was the speaker for today’s program. Senator Crowe is a fellow Lion but can’t be with us much due to his duties in Nashville and among his constituents in the district. We are always happy to have him when he can make it.
Senator Crowe listed several points in which Tennessee is in good shape and shared some areas of concern. Tennessee is ranked 43rd in the nation in Public Health and 35th in Education. He talked about solutions to these issues. He also noted tax issues and some of the gains in this area. Tennessee is #1 in the nation in Fiscal Responsibility and this is just one area where we are doing well.
President Shipley thanked Senator Crowe for his time today. With no further business to come before the club the meeting was adjourned.
