The Johnson City Lions founded Volunteer Blind Industries in 1951 in the basement of a local church. It has since grown into an independent, non-profit company which is a major trainer and employer of the blind and visually impaired. It is headquartered in Morristown, TN, and has manufacturing facilities in Morristown and Johnson City.
