Minutes of the Board Meeting July 9, 2020

The Johnson City Lions Club met for its Board meeting on Thursday July 9th, 2020 at 12 noon at the Johnson City Country Club.  Attending were Lion Brian Powell (President), Lion Ken Gough, Lion Don Raines, Lion Ed Gibbons, Lion Jerry Lonon, Lion George Winton, and Lion Doris Kaifa (secretary).

The meeting was called to order by President Powell.

The minutes of the June 2020 Board meeting minutes and the July 2nd 2020 regular meeting were presented and approved.

Committee and Project Report:

Treasurer Ken Gough presented the Projects Fund and Administration Fund financial reports for the month of June and fiscal year-end 2019-20.  Approved as presented.

Turtle Derby. Lion George Winton reported that there was no current activity.  Due to Covid-19, he was considering using Lions Park to hold the Derby outside and also exploring other options.  A suggestion was made by Lion Don Rained to consider having a “virtual” Derby via Facebook Live or Zoom.

Nuts & Bolts. Lion Ed Gibbons reported that he still supplies the Elizabethton Lions Club with nuts & bolts.

Vision screening: Lion Ed reported that he received new guidelines for vision screening which the Lion Club will have to follow for the coming school year.

Eye Glass Collection: Lion Ken reported that he continues to collects eye glasses. The trip to Roanoke will take place for September or October (no date set yet).

Other matters: Lion Ken is attempting to update the website monthly. Lion Don is keeping up with the club Facebook page.  He reports there are about 300 followers now.

Old business:

President Brian reminded members to keep up with the new guidelines for Meals and dues.

Lion Jerry Lonon reported that the USA-Canada Forum has been canceled.

The president asked members about their thoughts on having only 2 meetings a month until the Covid 19 crisis passes – one regular meeting and a board meeting.  Lion Ken responded that he doesn’t think it will be a good idea. Cutting back on meetings will decrease the desire and expectation for members to come to meetings.  No action was taken, and the matter will be discussed at the next regular meeting.

New Business:

Lion Ed Gibbons proposed that the club partner with Miles for Smiles to purchase equipment to help with making eye glasses.

Lion Ken proposes that the club think of new ways to recycles eye glasses, instead of taking glasses to Roanoke. Members spent a few minutes discussing other options.

There being no further issues to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned by President Brian Powell.

At your service,

Lion Doris Kaifa (Secretary)
