MINUTES OF SECOND MEETING APRIL 21, 2016

Lion’s Meeting April 21, 2016

Johnson City Lion’s Club

The Johnson City Lion’s Club met on 4/21/16 at J.C. Country Club.  Those present were: Steve Campbell, Ed Gibbons, Ken Gough and guests Ryan and Ethan Gough, Jerry Lonon, D. J Naron, Brian Powell,  Don Raines and guest Jay Baumgardner (speaker), Tim Tapp, George Winton and Erica Briest – visiting from the Elizabethton Lion’s Club.

The Tail Twister collected 6.00 in fines and the Lion Tamer collected 90 cents.  Tim Tapp won the drawing and designated the 90 cents to Sight Conservation in honor of the one and only, His Excellency,  Dr. Bill Pike.

The meeting was officially called to order by King Lion Ken Gough.

Lion D.J. Naron led in the pledge to the flag and Lion Tim Tapp led in prayer.

Steve Campbell presented the budget committee report and a copy was distributed to each member present.  This will be attached to these minutes.

King Lion Ken Gough reminded us to be thinking about a Legacy Project for the community.  This is a request from LCI but it is not something that is mandatory.  We are still waiting to hear from J.C. Parks and Recreation regarding any improvements to Lion’s Park.  A decision needs to be made soon.

With no further business King Lion Ken Gough turned the meeting over to Lion Don Raines who introduced Jay Baumgardner from Blood Assurance.  He is the Director of Resource Development and Community Support for Blood Assurance and deals with 62 counties.

Mr. Baumgardner gave an informative talk on blood donation in this area, how much is needed, how much is used and could be used in the event of a disaster, emergency, or something like the Zika virus.  He spent a good amount of time discussing the Zika virus and the “unknowns” at this time.  This virus has come from Latin America and has so far impacted 26 states in the U.S. He stated that blood banks are still waiting to hear from Centers For Disease Control to determine how best to be prepared for the virus should it come our way.  It is his hope that Lion’s International and local Lion’s clubs will partner with Blood Assurance and other blood donation agencies to assist in emergency situations like the Zika virus.

Mr. Baumgardner was presented with a Lion’s Club mug from King Lion Ken Gough.

Lion Erica Briest- President of the Elizabethton Club brought greetings from Elizabethton and  invited us to their meetings on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.

All guests were thanked for being in attendance.  With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 12:55 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Tim Tapp – Secretary
