October 4th, 2012 regular meeting notes

Regular meeting of the Johnson City Lions Club held October 4th, 2012 at the Johnson City Country Club, Johnson City, TN 37604

 (15 members present)

The meeting was called to order at 12:26 p.m. VDG Lion Ed Gibbons asked the blessing and Lion Brandon Johnson led the pledge to the flag.

Lion Tamer  Lion CB Willis said that our guest today was our speaker Lion Ron Riehn, District 12-N LCIF  coordinator form Knoxville, TN. Then Lion CB announced that the drawing was won by Lion Brandon Johnson who attended the last meeting and donated the money to the Turtle Derby.

Lion Steve Campbell announced that roughly 384 sponsorships have been sold (more or less) which is 66 short of our goal and added that all sales must be emailed to him no later than Monday, October 8th. That’s NEXT MONDAY  if you want your sponsors to be listed in the official bulletin.  Sales can be made after that drop dead date right up to the night of the Derby but those late sponsors sales will be written in as added late entries. Lion Campbell said he will write them in personally in each program. Send all your sponsorships to Lion Steve, srcampbeell@northeaststate.edu.

King Turtle Lion George Winton said TD posters and tickets will be available Monday and can be picked up at Shell Media at 802 W. Market St. on Tuesday and added…

Lion Ken Gough reminded all Lions about the trip to Roanoke on Saturday, November 10th at which time we will take several Lions (we hope) and more than 3250 pairs of glasses for recycling. Actually we’ll only be recycling the glasses, not the Lions no matter how badly they need that.  There will a little work and a lot of fun that day and the weather will be beautiful. Mark this date on your calendar and plan on joining us – you’ll enjoy the trip, guaranteed!

October and November program chair Lion Dr. Sam Messimer introduced today’s speaker, Lion Ron Riehn who spoke about LCIF’s Measles program and the fact that it has save millions of lives world wide. Also, Lion Riehn noted that it is now entirely permissible to nominate a Melvin Jones Foundation award and elect the Measles program, which is a humanitarian program, for the $1,000.00 cash award to be  donated to that project in the honorees name. Lion Ron said he can be reached at 865-690-2557 or 865-773-3795 for further information on how to do this.

The meeting was officially adjourned at 1:01.

The next regular meeting will be October 18, one day before the Turtle Derby.

There will be a Board Meeting next Thursday STSP.
