Minutes of regular meeting, Dec. 18, 2014

Meeting notes from the 2nd regular meeting of the Johnson City Lions Club for December held Thursday, December 18th , 2014 at the Johnson City Country Club, Johnson City, TN 37604

(12 members and 2 guests present)

The meeting was called to order at 12:26 PM by King Lion, George Winton.

After the blessing and pledge the meeting was in full swing.

Lion Willis introduced his guest, his wife and former Lioness Rose Willis. Lion Myron introduced her guest and prospective member, Carole Burleson.

Nobody won the drawing and, just as sure as night follows day, peace follows war and desert follows the entrée, the money rolls over.

King Lion Winton announced that more volunteers are needed for Salvation Army bell ringing tonight from 5PM to 8PM. Lion Gayle Cox said he’d take it from 6 to 7 and Lion Ken Gough said he’d take the graveyard shift from 7 to 8. Yours Truly, Lion Secretary will do 5 to 6. If anyone else can help out tonight feel free to join us but dress warmly.

Our speaker today was DG Lion Ed Gibbons who had, as he put it, a special honor; that being to present Lion CB Willis with a certificate of acclamation, along with a very special pin and plaque with commemorative inscription from Lion Willis’ induction into the Tennessee Lions Hall of Fame. Lion CB has served this club faithfully, energetically and enthusiastically for 40 years and before that an additional four years while stationed in Columbus, Georgia with General Motors. After a brief but entertaining acceptance speech Lion CB enjoyed several rounds of applause and many heartfelt congratulations.

King George read a letter from a student Volunteer of the Optometric Service to Humanity at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee asking for donations for a mission trip to South America. PDG Lion Dennis Powell moved that the club use $200.00 from the Sight Conservation Fund to honor that request. Lion Billy Pike seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved by voice vote.

Meeting adjourned at 12:58 PM

Lion John Merriss
