JOHNSON CITY CLUB’S JANUARY PROJECT

Hello Everyone,

In the minutes that I just sent out I forgot to include the name of the project for January.  Lion’s International has announced that January 9-15 is the Worldwide Week of Service to Fight Hunger.  We are going to do a service project on January 12th and we need optimal participation.  It may be that we want to discuss getting the ETSU club or the Elizabethton Club in on this.  If not, I will probably have to secure a few more.

The project will be serving at the One Acre Café on Walnut Street.  We will need to be there at 10 a.m. for initial training and then, depending on what shift you would like to work, we will go or stay.  The shifts are from 10:00 a.m until 11:00 (set up), 11:00-1:00, and 1:00-2:30.  The place really starts getting busy around 11:50.   Please let me know if you will go ahead and put this on your calendar so that we can have a good idea of a number.  If Johnson City schools are out for bad weather on that day, then the café is closed.

This will be a big help to the café and to people in the community who are hungry.  We are planning on making a donation to their Pay It Forward lunch program that enables people without money to eat.  Those who eat and can’t afford it are expected to volunteer in some way.  I will have more information at the December 15th meeting.

This will also be a great publicity event for Lion’s International and the J.C. Lion’s Club.  I would say that we should have some membership forms on hand for that day.

Have a great weekend.
