Meeting notes from 3/1/2012 regular meeting

Johnson City Lions Club regular noon meeting notes.  (LCI No. 5093)
Date: Thursday, 03/01/2012
Meeting Place: THE JOHNSON CITY COUNTRY CLUB

 (18 members present – 0 guests)

The meeting was called to order at 12:26 PM by president, King Lion Dr. Steve Campbell who called on PDG Lion Dennis Powell to ask the blessing and (the newest) Lion Jim Paveglio to lead the pledge.

Lion tamer, Lion CB Willis said, “No guests” and “Lion Pike won the drawing” and he, Lion Pike, after carefull and labored consideration donated 100% of his winnings to, “Eyeglasses”.

Lion Ken Gough announced that, so far, six Lions (Billy Pike, Don Raines, Jim Paveglio, Steve Campbell, Ken Gough and John Merriss) will be heading out early (6AM) on Saturday, the 24th of this month to herd glasses at the Roanoke Recycling center which is a lot more fun and a lot easier than herding cats. All Lions are invited; sign up if you think you can handle all the excitement, good food and fellowship.

King Lion read two thank-you letters; one from Deborah Wilkerson thanking the club for her new eye glasses and one from District Governor Chuck Bailey thanking our club for the work we did to help the victims of the tornadoes last year.

Lion Ed Gibbons was congratulated and consoled for being elected 2nd vice president of the district for FYE June 30th  2013 meaning he will be the District Governor  for FYE June 30th 2015. It was rumored that there were others who had agreed to be nominated from the floor but after they heard PDG Lion Powell’s nominating speech they all withdrew their eligibility. After that send up Lion Ed was heard to say, “Did I really do all those things?” Congratulations LION Ed. You did and we’re sure you’ll be a great District Governor.

Speaking of next year’s District 2nd VP, he introduced today’s speaker, the new  Boys and Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County, Robin Crumley.  Somehow Robin squeezed a one hour presentation into 15 spirited minutes telling us about the “Positive Place for Kids” plus Q & A. Robin said the program is designed to give kids 6 to 18 (1st through 12th grade) a safe place to go after school for fun, learning and other opportunities, a full schedule of activities and age appropriate services for as little as $2.00 a week. Anyone who knows a youngster (or several youngsters) who could be served by this important community organization, call Robin at 461-4560, ext. 23.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:57 PM.

The next regular meeting will be in three weeks: Thursday, March 22, 2012.

The next Board of Directors Meeting will be next Thursday, March 8th, 2012.
